Hello Haute Lifers thanks so much for stopping by!! Happy New Year. In the first post for 2018 I wanted to discuss goal setting and share my January goals with you. So you may be asking why should I set goals for the New Year. How is setting goals going to help me? Setting goals allows you to establish a flow or plan and expectations for the New Year. With goals you have things to work toward so you are not going blindly through a year. It is also important to write these goals down and place them somewhere that is visible to you on a regular basis. If you are a creative like me, you could even create a dream board with pictures and words showing things you’d like to accomplish in the year.
When I was in school my main goal dealt with getting good grades and finishing each semester and year with honors. Now that I am strictly working, my goals focus more on my life and making sure I keep spiritually, mentally, and emotionally healthy. Now I know what you are thinking, why don’t your goals focus on your career? Well if I learned anything last year it is that you cannot advance and grow in your career nor relationships until you yourself are whole. Yes you can make moves and do amazing things but you will not enjoy them the same way you would being whole.
So I wanted to make sure I was on track to have the best year of my life in 2018 so I decided to make monthly goals instead of goals for the year. Honestly, however, my January goals will be the foundation of the goals to follow but each month I would like to master a few things I believe will help me grow and make this year great.
Goal #1: Stay positive. I am pushing myself to stay focused on the good in my life. I am refusing to allow the negativity to bring down my mood or my focus. I want to focus more on my relationship with God, taking care of my princess, and building my empire.
Goal #2: Cook more. I honestly love to cook, but I do not have time to cook. I have played with the idea of meal prepping but I prefer fresh food over left overs any day (especially after the 2nd day lol). This goal may be a bit of a challenge but I am definitely here for it lol.
Goal #3: Be ok standing alone. I have spent most of my life searching for validation and wanting so badly to be liked and loved by other people that wasn’t family, I know first-hand how that ruins you; especially when you become dependent on a specific person’s or a specific group of peoples validation. I know for a lot of people this seems like a given, but this is honestly something I learned to embrace going through my divorce. I learned that I have to validate myself and not “care” about other people’s opinions. I am not saying not to listen to advice, that’s something we all need to do, but it is more important to believe in yourself and your abilities and know your worth before you seek after other people’s opinions of who you are, how pretty you are or aren’t, or your worth. This year I am focused on that and living at the level of my worth not beneath it and knowing when it has increased to adjust accordingly. I don’t mean that to be cocky nor arrogant but there are just somethings that I have to do to live on the level God is requiring me to be.
Goal #4: Never leaving the house in an outfit I don’t love. Now for some of you this maybe shallow, however, I learned that when I am dressed in something I love, I feel better about myself. On some of my toughest days, seeing my reflection in a mirror would help me stop and place my life in perspective and push myself through the day. Yes I know what I wear does not make me but when you are down you must find ways to help pull yourself up and be able to keep going. I also set this goal to force myself to put thought into what I am wearing and to not just walk out the house in just anything (those that know me know I don’t do that anyway but still). This goal also goes back to goal #3. If I love what I have on before I step foot out of my house or take a picture for social media, I will not be waiting for someone to compliment my outfit or like my photos. I will have validated the outfit and my look and that will be sufficient.
